Pollution on Ballinney Burn at Ballyclare
At 11-00am today the 10 December 2011 I checked the Ballinderry Burn for potential pollution at the bridge spanning the main road beside the Ballyclare Sewage Works. At that time there was an enormous amount of sewage fungal growth on the bed of the river. The water was running clear. I checked the same burn above the Ballinney Church. There was a small amount of fungal growth at this location. It would seem to me the source of the problem may be at a number of premises between the two inspection points. Please have the sites inspected and more importantly trace the source of the problem. Can you please report back to me so that I can update the members of the various angling clubs and the Six Mile Water Trust who are meeting this Wednesday. I look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible. Many thanks. Maurice Parkinson, Chairman of the Six Mile Water Trust.
This has been confirmed as a pollution incident and the NIEA has identified the source. I am hopeful prosecutions will be instigated
