I will ask that question at the committee meeting on Monday night and if you dont mind why do you ask that question.

the reason for asking the question is the amount off people that seem to be fishing the river, with bait before september.was not on the river much this year, busy with work.last year in july august, counted 13 people using bait, before september.even two foreigners were able to come to the top off the long hole, bait rods, guitar, and rubber dingy, and stay all weekend.would say the number off prosecutions would indicate the amount off bailiffing that is actually being done.would say the club needs a paid bailiff, before the poachers have the river cleaned off fish.seems to be plenty off the bailiffs walking around potterswalls asking the club members for there club cards.not once, every time they see them.

I have a question for you srmarquess1 how many times did you contact a bailiff when you came across these things happening to report it. As you well know its not only up to the bailiffs to stop these thing happening it also need the help of everyone using the river. As for bailiffs asking to see membership cards or day tickets they are only doing their job.

i never contacted any bailiffs, what would be the point unless something was going to be done about it,ie them prosecuted.i personally told them to remove themselves from the river, which they did.i think the number of prosecutions would reflect the worthyness off ringing them.as for the bailiffs asking the club members,am sure, they dont need to be asking the same people for club cards every time they meet them.awaiting to hear the number off prosecutions.

well davy did you ask the question about the number off prosecutions on the river?.would like to know the answer.are maybe you dont want to tell me?.the people on here go on and on about protecting the fish, fish hatcherys, catch and release, and the rest.maybe the bailiffing issue should be sorted out first,ie some one paid to bailiff the river, either full time, are part time.im just saying on here what every one in the club is talking about,ie the bailiffing on the river is a complete joke!!!!.awaiting your kind reply.

To help with davys answers i myself have 14 prosecutions on the river. As we are unpayed we depend on club members calling, the number is on your card. I have had help from club members which led to some prosecutions which i apprectiate. I am on that river day and daily from doagh to the lough this not counting my night work. I certainly do not agree with baliffs asking club members for their club card everytime they see them. As davy says ring the number and hopefully i will get there, allan and myself worked together closely and got prosecutions, everyone, as davy says needs some help, i have followed up every call i have got or the baliffs that work with me have. Our fish stocks is everyones responseability as is our river. I hope this helps you with your question.

It might be an idea to print some bailiff numbers on the day tickets as well, that way day ticket anglers could report incidences of illegal fishing and pollution directly to a bailiff.

would probably be as much use as a bailiffs number anyway,at least you bought a day ticket, plenty off people fishing that river never!.probably knowing they were never going to get asked for it anyway.the bailiffs were standing talking to people i personally know, and never asked them to produce club cards, day tickets are anything.club needs to get a paid pailiff to patrol that river!.before theres nothing left in it.

Dear mr smartquess i really don,t know what your problem is with the baliffs as you seem to have one. Just because a baliff is talking to anglers and not asking them for tickets etc does not mean that they don,t know if they have them or not they could have asked them before or there is other ways of knowing this. If people like you would stop withholding information, that would also help to keep our river safer. So i would ask you to stop bitching and use your phone in future please, then you will know if you get a response or not instead of saying all the baliffs are useless. My number iis on the back of club cards if you have 1. If not the friends who the baliffs talk to as you say will give you it.

last year i was a day ticket holder, only twice was I asked for a ticket all season.. I found the 2 bailiffs friendly and helpful.
bailiffs discourage the scumbags who fish without a ticket or don't follow the guidelines set by the club.. they need our total support as it wouldn't be the nicest job at times. plus a unpaid one
this year Ill be applying for a season ticket and looking forward to it
